 A couple minor fights broke out. The festivities were momentarily halted at one point when one mikoshi team went crazy and rammed into three others in the middle, causing all of them to crash to the ground all over each other, and sending one person away in an ambulance. But once that was taken care of they started back up again. I fortunately had a great (and safe) view of the whole thing from a second-story window.
Then it was all over. All the mikoshi suddenly went away and everyone went back into their homes to either nurse hangovers or fall asleep. And tomorrow is Friday, and not a holiday, and we all have to go to work. Japan is apparently not into the American way of "observing" holidays on a Friday or Monday, to create a 3-day weekend. Needless to say Taiza has been particularly quiet this evening—I mean, even more than usual.
